A40926 is a natural glycopeptide antibiotic produced by Nonomureae sp. ATCC 39727. It is a precursor for the semi-synthesis of dalbavancin, a novel second-generation glycopeptide agent belonging to the same class of drugs as vancomycin and teicoplanin. The antibiotic is produced as a complex of five components A0, A1, B0, B1 and B2 of which B0 is the most abundant. A40926 is a glycopeptide formed from seven amino acids, D-mannosyl unit and differs in the nature of the fatty acid chain attached to glucuronic moiety.

2. Use
A40926 is a natural glycopeptide antibiotic and a precursor for the semi-synthesis of dalbavancin, a novel second-generation glycopeptide agent belonging to the same class of drugs as vancomycin and teicoplanin. Dalbavancin is designed to be an improved alternative to those antibiotics, for the treatment of patients infected with MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphyloccous aureus) and MRSE (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis).
