Clavulanic Acid belongs to the ß-lactam antibiotics and contains a ß-lactam-oxazolidine ring system

2. Use

Clavulanic Acid is only slightly effective as antibacterial substance but inhibits a wide range of ß-lactamases in low concentrations. In combination with penicillin’s and cephalosporin's, this compound causes a distinct increase in activity of theses antibiotics.
