Process of Purified Vero Rabies Vaccine (PVRV) for Human Use

Introduction

Rabies is a viral disease that causes acute inflammation of the brain in humans and other warm-blooded animals. Once symptoms of rabies appear it nearly always results in death. Rabies causes about 26,000 to 55,000 deaths worldwide per year. The only way to prevent rabies is to inoculate available rabies vaccine. 

Purified Vero rabies vaccine (PVRV) is not restrict from animal sources, has no exogenous factor contamination and small difference in batches which benefit to quality control. Studies have shown that the immunogenicity of PVRV is comparable with HDCV, while the cost of PVRV is much lower.

The upstream of PVRV production process in this project employing bioreactor Vero cell high-density culture is cutting-edge in the world, which is capable of cultivating high-density Vero cell, and further preparing high titer rabies virus harvest broth. The DSP process can ensure a high process recovery yield and achieve a high standard of less than 100pg/dose of DNA residue. Therefore, this process has tremendous social and economic benefits.
